Searching TRELLIS
Level of Indexing
- TRELLIS points to entire titles, BUT NOT (in general) to titles inside other titles
For example:
- TRELLIS will point to an entire journal, for example: Journal of the American Statistical Association, BUT NOT to papers within the journal
- TRELLIS will point to an entire conference proceedings, for example: Proceedings of the Seventh International Symposium in Economic Theory and Econometrics, BUT NOT to papers within a conference proceedings
- so you cannot search for journal or conference papers written by a particular author or on a very specific subject using TRELLIS.
Usefulness of TRELLIS
- in a known-item search (author or title index) - Indispensible
- Just remember to look for the largest title
- in a subject search (subject or keyword search) - Limited to identifying secondary and tertiary literature on a subject
- for the primary research literature, you need to use instead abstracts & indexes [next major topic]
TRELLIS Available Outside the Library
- If you have access to the campus computing network, then it is best to use a web browser to access UWELib at http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/
- If not, then use a modem and connect to local Datapac number (given in city telephone directory) and connect to port 33500196; you will have to hit the period key a few times at the beginning
