Recommending Material for Acquisition
Suggestions that the Library purchase a book or periodical not already in
the collection can be made by using a Purchase Request form available at
the Information Desks (Porter, Davis, and University Map and Design
Libraries) or an electronic
form which will be forwarded to your departmental liaison librarian.
Library purchases depend on the relevance to teaching and research, funds
available, costs, etc. There is no guarantee that a requested item
will be purchased.
Please also note the following when placing a request to purchase:
- Orders are sent out as quickly as possible. If you want a book
or periodical to be ready for use at a definite time, please specify the
date required under 'Notes' and we will do our best to meet your wishes.
- If your request comes from a dealer's catalogue (antiquarian
or remainder), specify the catalogue number, item number, and the dealer's
name and address under 'Notes'. Such orders receive priority.
- We appreciate any additional information you can give us about
the books and periodicals you wish us to purchase, e.g. catalogues,
publishers' advertisements, reviews, etc.
- Please consult TRELLIS, the Library's
online catalogue, before making recommendations. Unless you specify under
'Notes' that you wish us to purchase additional copies, your request will
not be considered if the Library already owns the item.
Recommendations regarding Internet resources can be sent
to the liaison librarian responsible for collection
development in the discipline.
